Bands announced for Tech Jam PDF Print E-mail

YBOR CITY - The TBTF Foundation, the charitable arm of the Tampa Bay Technology Forum, will have four bands perform at Thursday's Tampa Bay Tech Jam at The Ritz Ybor, 1503 E. Seventh Ave.

The participants are Brian Chris, an all-original band; Low Expectations, with representatives from PBS&J; Pitbull Toddler, with employees of Cox Media Group and the "Cowhead Show"; and The Party Sharks, with musicians from Telovations and Raymond James & Associates.

Attendees at Tech Jam will vote on the bands by making a $1 donation per vote. All proceeds from the voting will go to the foundation. The band with the most votes at the end of the event will be crowned the Battle of the Bands champion and receive studio time from Mana Recording Studios. Tech Jam also will have a silent auction with trips, attraction passes, football tickets and other items.

This year's Tech Jam also features a VIP backstage party from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. VIPs will enjoy one hour of open bar, priority check-out at the silent auction, private access to the balcony overlooking the main event, casino table games and the chance to meet the bands.

EMS top winner at this year's coolTECH PDF Print E-mail

Engineering & Manufacturing Services Inc., a Tampa-based provider of three-dimensional scanning and prototyping products, was selected as the overall winner of the third-annual CoolTech showcase June 4 at the Museum of Science and Industry.

One of 46 exhibitors this year, EMS received the Judges’ Award, while Sarasota-based Robrady Design was named runner-up and video game producer Trendy Entertainment of Gainesville was given honorable mention. Rod Thomson, executive editor of Gulf Coast Business Review, was among this year’s judges.

CoolTech attendees also got in on voting by submitting text messages for their favorites. National Forensic Science Technology Center won first place, GCA Technology Services was runner-up and Send Savings got honorable mention.

This year’s keynote speaker was Frank Farro, co-founder of the new technology and research-and-development team for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Worldwide. Farro outlined the many failures that accompany ideas that work. His key piece of advice to innovators is “fail fast and cheap, and move on to the next thing.”
